Jewellery Care Guideline

Despite being the hardest naturally occurring substance on Earth, diamonds require care and attention. Below are our tips to keep your bespoke Miyazato piece of jewellery looking its best everyday.

Always take off your jewellery when going to the gym or lifting / moving heavy objects. Gold is quite soft and can be scuffed and dented easily. Settings, especially the claws, are delicate and a hard knock can damage them.

Remove your jewellery when cleaning and do not expose it to any harsh cleaning products or chemicals. This will tarnish jewellery over time.

Always remove your ring when applying hand creams or lotions. Daily build-up of oils, lotions, and grease quickly dulls a diamond's sparkle and fire.

When travelling or storing your jewellery, ensure pieces are separated and not rubbing against one another. Diamonds can scratch other diamonds, gemstones, or the metal on your jewellery.

Never swim with jewellery – cold water can shrink your fingers slightly and cause rings to slip off.

At Miyazato, we offer a complimentary annual deep clean and polish of your piece of jewellery. We will also check the setting for any inevitable knocks whilst doing this, and tighten everything up to ensure your jewellery will last a lifetime.

Please email us at hello@miyazatodiamonds.com to arrange this with us.

If you do drop, knock or suspect you may have damaged your ring, the first thing to do is the “tap test”. Hold your ring close to your ear between your thumb and index finger. Tap the shoulder of your ring with your other finger. If you hear a jingle, you may have knocked the setting/claws out of place slightly. Please contact us immediately.

In between your annual clean and service, see our at-home cleaning guide below to keep it looking beautiful every day.

  • Close-up of a silver ring with a large central gemstone and smaller surrounding stones, resting on a wooden surface near a glass bowl of water and a white tube of cream.

    STEP ONE

Soak your jewellery in a bowl of lukewarm water mixed with a mild dish soap.

Do not use anything with bleach or any harsh chemicals.

Leave this for 10-15 minutes to allow the soapy water to breakdown grease and dirt.

  • A person's hand holding a silver ring with a small star design over a container of soapy water, using a brush to clean it.

    STEP TWO

Use a clean, soft-bristle toothbrush to very gently brush all over the jewellery. Do not scrub.

Pay particular attention to the underside of the ring, as this is where daily build of grease and dirt tends to deposit the most.

Do not use an electric toothbrush. It is far too harsh and especially risky to small diamonds set into the shoulders or band.

  • A silver engagement ring with a large central diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds, resting on a white plate with black polka dots.

    STEP THREE

Rinse your jewellery under cool running water (make sure the drain is plugged first!) until the water runs clear.

Pat dry with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. Allow to air dry for 20 minutes.
